Friends with Benefits
Director: Will Gluck
Writer: Keith Merryman, David A. Newman, Will Gluck
Cast: Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis, Patricia Clarkson, Richard Jenkins, Jenna Elfman, Bryan Greenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone

Plot:
Dylan (Justin Timberlake) gets headhunted by Jamie (Mila Kunis) and moves from Los Angeles to New York. They get along well and quickly become very good friends. But both are pretty unlucky when it comes to romantic relationships – so one day they decide to hook up with each other. Strictly without any romantic entanglement, of course. But will that really work?

Friends with Benefits is a charming and fun film. Will it be a contender for cinematic masterpiece? No. But nevertheless it’s a very nice piece of entertainment.

I have to admit that the whole “Friends with benefits can never work because where there is sex there has to be love” thing is getting a bit old. Seriously, people, sex without romance can work and does so frequently. But despite that, the movie handled its plot well.

It was very well written too, with good dialogues and cool jokes that were just meta enough to entertain me. Reminded me of Love and Other Disasters in that way.

But even better than that, Dylan and Jamie are great characters. I liked them both a lot and I thought they worked really well together. You could see why they’d become friends and how it all works out.

Both Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake were wonderful playing them (also: naked Justin Timberlake is pretty damn good). Though Patricia Clarkson  and Woody Harrelson ran off with their scenes. Almost as good as them: Richard Jenkins. There were some really great cameos, especially Emma Stone had me laughing my ass off.

And the soundtrack was cool.

Summarising: Looks like it’s a good year for RomComs so far and Friends with Benefits is no exception.
