The Tunnel
Director: Carlo Ledesma
Writer: Enzo Tedeschi, Julian Harvey
Cast: Bel Deliá, Andy Rodoreda, Steve Davis, Luke Arnold
You can (legally) download it for free here.

Plot:
Natasha (Bel Deliá) is a journalist who suspects a government  cover-up in Sydney: there is a lot of water trapped in the tunnels underneath the city that they planned to recycle. But the plan is suddenly shelved, without explanation. But homeless people keep going missing in the tunnels. So Natasha assembles a team – producer Pete (Andy Rodoreda), cameraman Steve (Steve Davis) and sound guy Tangles (Luke Arnold) – and the four of them head into the tunnels to find out the truth.

The Tunnel is a decent film. It’s not unbelievably great (for me especially because I’m not a fan of found-footage), but it was very well executed and had absolutely tense moments.

TheTunnel

The film takes a little too long to get started. It just takes seemingly forever until they are actually in the tunnels and the action gets really started. And towards the end, the movie falls apart again as they can’t keep up the tension. And I just felt that the “big bad” reveal was a bit of a let-down.

But the middle part is really strong and very effective. Especially the scene around the bell gave me goosebumps. The soundtrack and soundediting really pulled its way there.

The cast is pretty good, too. Especially Steve Davis was impressive. And I did like that they broke up the shaky found-footage with interview material.

And it is a pretty cool idea to release the film via torrent, making it available for free. It’s a ballsy move, but one with a lot of future, I think. Kudos to that.

Summarising: It’s not great, but it’s good.
