Plot:
Amy (Sara Foster), Max (Meagan Good), Dominique (Devon Aoki) and Janet (Jill Ritchie) are part of the D.E.B.S. – a group of students recruited as spies. When their big nemesis Lucy Diamon (Jordana Brewster) comes into town, they start to surveil her. But when Amy actually meets Lucy, she’s surprised by the instant attraction she feels towards her. Caught between her obligations and her heart, Amy has to decide which way to go.

Despite all the attempts by its marketing to sell this as a “sexy, kick-ass, lesian schoolgirls wank fantasy”, D.E.B.S. is actually a whole lot of fun. It’s extremely silly, but also absolutely adorable and it made me laugh.

Re-Watch: The Scorpion King (2002)

Plot:
Memnon (Steven Brand) is taking over the world, one battle at a time, with the help of Cassandra’s (Kelly Hu) prophecies. The few remaining tribes come together and hire Mathayus (Dwayne Johnson) to try and stop Memnon by killing the sorceress. But things go differently than planned and Mathayus finds himself in the desert with a small-time crook (Grant Heslov) and said sorceress who is still very much alive. It seems destiny has a bigger fate in store for Mathayus.

Oh, I can not even begin to explain how much nostalgia is attached to this film in my head. Without that I probably wouldn’t like it as much as I do, though it would still be an amazingly cheesy, entertaining schlockfest.

Green Lantern (2011)

Green Lantern is Martin Campbell‘s adaptation of the DC comics. The film was written by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Michael Clarke Duncan, Geoffrey Rush and Angela Bassett.

Plot:
Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is a fighter pilot and basically the definition of irresponsibility. One day Hal stumbles upon a dying alien, Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison). Abin Sur is a Green Lantern, an intergalactic police force. His power source is a ring that can harness will power and which choses Hal to be Abin Sur’s successor. So Hal gets drawn into the world of the Green Lanterns and their biggest foe Parallax (Clancy Brown).

Green Lantern is not a particularly good film. Fortunately for its entertainment value it’s a pretty craptastic film. Would it have hurt if it had made a little more sense? [Topless Robot pretty much takes apart all the plot holes. In a very entertaining way.] Probably not. But then the movie would have had to leave out a few of the bad green screen scenes in front of fake sunsets – and really, who would want that?
